TEAMtalk Media, one of the largest sports networks in Africa, has appointed 27 year old Julia Harris to take the reins of its global site, Football 411. A progressive digital media company, TEAMtalk Media has the exclusive SA distribution rights for the English Premier League (EPL) and is also the official data partner to the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
Harris started her career at TEAMtalk Media as an editor’s assistant, five and a half years ago in the cricket department. From there her broad passion for sport saw her move to rugby, then to Formula1 and on many occasions she found herself filling in wherever she was most needed in the busy newsroom. Whilst gathering experience in reporting on various sports, Harris never lost her overriding passion for football.
An ardent Everton fan, her love of the game found her working on the Football 411 site, where her writing and managerial skills soon saw her appointed as editor of the site. Offering a unique blend of local and international news, Football 411 provides an excellent go-to point for any football fan the world over, with a special focus on African football.
“This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for me and one that I am ready to meet head on. It might seem a traditionally male dominated post, but I’m here to break that mould and let others know that if you have a passion for something, and you put in the hard work, you can make your dreams a reality.
“My passion for the game, combined with working with a great team, has meant that as a site we truly practice what we preach. We also come together outside of work once a week to battle it out on the pitch in the form of the local corporate football league,” says Harris.
So what does a young, hardworking woman such as Harris do with any free time? She’s an avid Ultimate Frisbee player and takes any opportunity she can to educate her fellow workers on the true beauty of this sport.
“It was with great pride that we appointed Julia as our new Football 411 editor. We are passionate about people who believe in their goals and love what they do. And that is Julia. Mix that with the talent she has shown over the past five and a half years and you have someone who will help to grow the Football 411 site,” says Desere’ Orrill CMO of TEAMtalk media, which is an Ole! Media Group company.
